Bob Cornwall: Receive the Spirit
Bob Cornwall is the author of Unfettered Spirit: Spiritual Gifts for the New Great Awakening, and today he discusses receiving the Spirit as recorded in the gospel of John.
Breath—life—power. That is the gift that Jesus gives the disciples as he prepares to leave them. But as he departs, they are being sent into the world. As they go, they don’t go alone. The Holy Spirit is with them serving as Advocate/Helper/Counselor.
RECEIVE THE SPIRIT—LECTIONARY REFLECTION FOR PENTECOST SUNDAY, YEAR A (JOHN 20)
… Having received the gifts, the charismata, of the Spirit, we’re prepared to share the life that God has invested in us with the rest of Creation. And this makes us all charismatics. And, as Jürgen Moltmann proposes, we are charismatic even if we have yet to discover our giftedness. It is inherent in faith. 36
