Elgin Hushbeck and Alden Thompson on Inerrancy and Understanding

This is a discussion of inerrancy and understanding scripture by two scholars, authors, and teachers who both take a high view of scripture and believe in the miraculous element. How does acceptance (Hushbeck) and rejection (Thompson) of the term “inerrancy” as descriptive of the inspiration of scripture impact the way they understand the text?

Both scholars speak with the intent of helping you understand scripture better. This is not so much a debate as a conversation across a somewhat thin grey line. Each might accuse the other of sharing in his own position, and describe the entire enterprise as one of vocabulary more than reality.
